Outdoor Classrooms and the Green Passport
On July 3oth, 2026. El Salvador introduced two exciting initiatives that encourage travelers to experience the country’s incredible natural heritage in a more meaningful way. The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) recently launched Outdoor Classrooms (Aulas al Aire Libre) and the Green Passport (Pasaporte Verde), programs designed to transform a visit to the country’s protected natural areas into an unforgettable learning adventure.
Experience Nature Beyond Sightseeing
El Salvador’s Protected Natural Areas are much more than beautiful landscapes. They are living ecosystems where visitors can discover native wildlife, learn how forests and mangroves function, and better understand the importance of protecting these unique environments.
During these visits, travelers can walk natural trails, observe local flora and fauna, and use a Species Identification Guide to recognize many of the plants and animals they encounter along the way.
Rather than simply admiring the scenery, visitors are encouraged to understand the connections between species and ecosystems. A bird, a flowering plant, an ancient tree, or a mangrove can become the starting point for discovering why conservation matters.

Collect Memories with the Green Passport
Complementing the Outdoor Classrooms initiative is the new Green Passport, an exciting way to encourage visitors to explore more of El Salvador’s protected natural areas.
The passport includes 13 Protected Natural Areas that are open to the public. Each time visitors explore one of these destinations, they can collect an official stamp, creating a unique record of their journey across the country’s diverse landscapes.
