What is Gringo Tours?

Gringo tours is a small family owned tour company. Started in 2007 by Robert Broz as a way to show the beauties of this country to the visitors that ventured to El Salvador. Back in the year, El Salvador as a whole would have been considered “Off The Beaten Track”. We started promote it as “The Other El Salvador”, successfully had many tourists that enjoyed the country, its people, its food, its landscapes and its culture.

Up to this day, our tour company has taken hundreds of tourists around. Going pretty much everywhere in the country. Gringo tours also offer tours to popular destinations in the neighboring countries of Guatemala and Honduras. We proudly say that Gringo Tours has pushed so hard for the development of tourism and it has been satisfying to see how this beautiful branch has evolved in the most recent days.

A little about our staff

Founders and owners

Roberto Broz or El Gringo Roberto

Photo Robert Broz

Robert was born in California. His mother, a Salvadoran who left the country in 1943, and became a Title one teacher for most of her working years in California and his father an American with Checo/English decent and a school teacher as well. In 1994 he came to visit his mother Carmen who was then retired and living in El Salvador. She was working with people coming back from refugee camps. Robert found a devastated country where everything was deplorable for human conditions. In contrast, people were happy on top of the whole suffering during the war. They smiled, they shared their food, they did not have no restrictions on giving away the very last they had if someone else needed it. No matter if that someone else was an American or foreigner coming from lands of plenty. The kids played with wood sticks, dirt, metal or stones, but were a lot happier than many up middle class Californian kids Robert had known there. Robert came for a 30-day stay that he prolonged for 5 months, within that initial five months he decided to move to El Salvador and on August 25th in 2025 he drove from the SF Bay Area to El Salvador.

Tita Broz

Tita Broz, is a great source of knowledge about handicrafts and Salvadorean cuisine. She can tell you just by seeing if the craft is local, Guatemalan, Nicaraguan, original or replicas. Can cook pretty much everything from the very common pupusas to very ancestral dishes derived from corn and other local ingredients. She is Robert’s wife and another reason why Robert fell in love with El Salvador. Tourists love to have her around when shopping or trying out the different street foods. She gives them the best advice to get the very best from El Salvador.

Yunior Gómez

A bachelor’s degree in English, with more than 10 years of experience leading groups from North America and Europe. Born in a refugee camp during the civil war, raised in a very organized community where the testimonies and history of the recent conflict can be breathed in the air. He shares his very profound knowledge and understanding of the history so our tourists can easily understand the complexities of the times in our country in terms of history and culture. Yunior has been a longtime friend who has been working eventually doing tours with Gringo Tours but he is now a full time staff.
